Saturday events

This Saturday was full to the brim with events. The first event was the monthly Home Depot Kids Clinic. Cody was voted to take the three kids to this. The kids each made a wheelbarrow for me with a beautiful flower inside. They had a blast!

Next I was voted to take them to the annual Teddy Bear Clinic at Portneuf Medical Center. We have been to this event before and it was a big hit. This time, we went with our friends and their stuffed animals. The stuffed animals get admitted to the hospital with a wrist band and the kids get to choose if they want to be a nurse or a doctor. All my kids chose to be nurses (the hats were cooler). The kids got to listen to their animal heart beats (or lack of) and they got casts on each animal.

The last month or so

Alexa and her friend Kamille have discovered dressing up. I went to the DI and kit the jackpot. Now they dont have to use ALL the clothes in Alexa's drawers. These are just a few of the amazing outfits they have put together.

Easter was nice. Unfortunately I slept through most of it including the egg decorating part. When I woke up, I found the kids had apparently decorated their own eggs with little to no help from their dad. They were dyed beautifully but then they got ahold of the glitter glue and made a little dab on each of the eggs. Cody and I thought this looked like a little poop on each one. Mental note: help the kids next year. :)

Okay, Austins birthday was not in April but I forgot to post the photos of his cake and the birthday boy. Austin turned 7 this year. Wow.

Horses

Our neighbor just bought a Clydesdale horse. The girl is MASSIVE. Our neighbor is so sweet with the kids and lets them ride her horses almost anytime. Since the last post was about Mason. Here are a few picture with Austin and Alexa.

Pine Wood Derby 2009

I have been a little slow posting our lives events. Here are a few pictures of Mason's Pine Wood Derby. He and Cody worked really hard on his car. Mason took second place out of the Wolves. He was very proud and we were very proud of him.

Dentist visit

At the recommendation of our kids dentist we began seeing an orthodontist. They have a preventative program designed to correct minor problems with teeth before they become major problems. At our last appointment they took x-rays and determined that Mason needed two teeth pulled and Austin needed four teeth pulled. Austin had not lost any teeth yet and through the x-ray it showed that the roots on his teeth were not dissolving properly. That is why he had not lost any and if they were not pulled then his big teeth would come in sideways.

So today was the big day. I took Alexa to a friends house and took the boys to the dentist. They weren't scared at all. In fact I was more nervous than they were. After an hour of waiting, they came out with smiles on their faces. Their mouths were stuffed with gauze and their lips were numb but they were in good spirits.

When we got home and the numbing medicine started wearing off is when the "fun" began. They didn't know how to react to the sensations. Mason kept whining and telling me that his lip felt fat. Austin just kept screaming and hitting his legs. He was so frustrated and couldn't understand why his mouth felt like that. After a few hours of this "fun" the numbness went away and lucky the pain did not follow. It should be an interesting night. The dentist did give us Tylenol with Codeine in case of pain so that will definitely help them sleep.

More Strep Throat

Alexa recovered quickly from her strange case of strep.

On that note, Mason came home this afternoon from a sleepover at his best friend, Pacen's, house. He came in the front door, threw his blanket down, and has an unpleasant look on his face. I asked him what was wrong and he said he was itchy. (They all had just had haircuts, Thanks Sunshine!) I told him to go take a cool shower and calm down.

Fifteen or so minutes later he came out of the shower. He said that his throat hurt. CRAP! I felt his head and he was burning up. I told him to put his clothes on and off to the urgent care we went.

After 45 minutes in the urgent care, the doctor came in and said "Mason has strep". The doc also listened to his lungs and said that she could hear weezing too. She gave us two presriptions (anitbiotic and steriod inhaler) and off to the pharmacy we went.

We went to the pharmacy and were told 10 minutes. 20 minutes later I could hear the pharmacist on the phone and he was arguing with someone. Then he said "the dose you prescribed for Mason is more than an adult should have." AWESOME! After the doc and pharm. decided what dosage my 8 year old should get, it had been another 45 minutes and Mason was starting to moan.

We got home, gave Mason all his medicine and had him lay down.

Now the best part...

Austin asked me for a drink of water. I got him one and after he drank it he scrunched his face and said "it hurts when I drink". SERIOUSLY?!

Cody piped in and said "Austin I asked you before your mom and Mason left if your throat hurt and you said no." Austin's response while pointing to his throat, "Is this my throat?".

By that time all the clinics were closed and there was no way we were going to the ER for strep. I gave him some pain reliever and a lozenge and hopefully he will make it through the night without pain and we will take him to the urgent care in the morning. Poor kids!

Later that evening...

I was talking with Sunshine, the mother of Pacen. She said that Pacen was now complaining of a sore throat. Needless to say we are going to carpool in the morning to the urgent care.

What a week.

Strep Throat

Alexa came up to me on Monday morning and said"my throat hurts". She had no fever and was running around the house singing. I thought to myself bullcrap. She just doesn't want to go to school. I told her that if she was really sick she should stay home with me and sleep all day. She decided she would rather go to school.

After school she said again that her throat hurt. I told her that I would take her to the doctor but if they told me that there was nothing wrong with her then she would stay in her room for the rest of the day. She said okay and off to the doctor we went.

When we got to the doctor she was playing on the toys and acting totally fine. The nurse called us back and then swabbed her throat. The nurse said she couldn't see anything and I told the nurse I thought Alexa was faking. The nurse left to run the swabs.

Two minutes later the nurse came in and said it was "very positive". CRAP! I felt like the biggest jack in the whole world! Alexa asked me if she was still in trouble.

Worlds Worst Mother Award goes to ME! I felt so bad.

Last night after getting her antibiotics, she spiked a fever and just kept moaning. I snuggled with her and tried to comfort her, still feeling like a total jerk.

Lesson learned!

Mason...

Mason had his first pack meeting this last week. He loved it!
Mason also turned the big 8. Can't believe he is that old. We had a small party for him with cake and ice cream. He will be baptized in the next two months.
